Statement
I am inspired by the brilliance of the natural world and utilise elements from the environment to create temporary site-specific and gallery based sculptures.
As the work is often time-based, it falls victim to its own nature, falling into decay as its very construction is taking place. This becomes part of its process - the unstoppable progression through cycles of decay and creation. I document this work through its varying stages and examine the taut relationship between the materials, often found growing together in life.
Similar to my drawing methodology, my process is one of quiet construction, creating form through repetitive layering, using tension to gradually build a textured structure.
My intention is to find an essence of simplicity within my work - to explore man's complex relationship with the natural world, and find an equilibrium, if only for a brief moment in time.
